Iara Lee. Director. Human rights defender. And she was in Mavi Marmara…*
Q:You were in Gaza before attending convoy of Peace ships. And you saw Gaza needs humanitarian aid. Now what do you want to say about Israel’s declaration is that “Gaza needn’t any humanitarian aid”?
A: The israeli declaration is not only preposterous, but immoral and dangerous. The facts speak for themselves. Virtually every human rights group in the world has confirmed that what is happening in Gaza is a humanitarian crisis. things like malnutrition, anemia, and birth defects, among others, are rampant, and the situation has only worsened since the vicious Operation Cast Lead, when the Israelis were proven to have used white phosphorous- an illegal chemical weapon- on the civilian populations of Gaza.
Q: What do you think about world’s reaction? Was it enough?
A: Judging by Israeli conduct so far, and the sham committee assembled by netenyahu to investigate the raid, i would say that the world reaction is not nearly enough. an impartial investigation is imperative to uncover the truth, and the Israelis should be made to comply.
Q: I never thought anyone will kill in the ship. Israel will besiege with any another methods and it will take the action… I just want to ask that, did you feel any fear of death?
A: I felt outrage. I did not think they would attack us in international waters, and I was even more surprised to see the Israelis were using live ammunition. Over the past few years the level of Israeli brutality has escalated, but this exceeded even my worst expectations.
Q: Israeli media want to show that attack is defensive. You described it as “farcical”.
But Israel is still struggling to show how it is rightful. Also they publish a video about activists as deridingly. How do you commentate that irony?
A: The videos shown by the Israelis are heavily edited, and their audio recordings and early claims have been thoroughly debunked by journalists and exposed as doctored material. they have no credibility at this point. Even Israeli officials had to come forward and admit these were forgeries.
To mock the victims of the assault is a very dark reaction and represents a sort of collective madness.
Q: Do you think to join for another Mavi Marmara for Gaza, again?
A; For sure, there are plans for more flotillas and other creative ways to challenge the blockade which I am honored to be part of, and am committed to mobilizing as many as possible to join in these efforts.
